Many do it because photography is a way of escape. It's an art form that involves dancing with the lights and fencing with the shadows. It requires you to find the perfect sweet spot of a venue to perform your theatrical routine. When the sun goes down, and the lights come up. When you balance ambience with artificial or man-made strobes, swaying with subject becomes easier. Like any dance form, as though waiting for the clock to strike and your position to be precision, photography requires practice, patience, and commitment. 

Most of all, it requires you to have phun.
